The usual method of weighing loose products with some accuracy is to introduce a coarse feed followed by a trickle feed to final weight. Also the electronic weigh-scale should allow for material in flight and adjust the cut off point automatically. All this takes up valuable seconds for bag fill and weigh.

Portsdown have now designed and produced a weigh method whereby the in flight material is trapped in mid air as soon as the correct weight is achieved. There is no trickle time, which saves valuable seconds and the trapped material is released for the next bag fill.

When Portsdown tested this method, they doubled their bagging speeds and speeds of 8/10 bags per minute were achieved. The electronic weigh scale will still adjust automatically for over and under final weight and on a 10-bag cycle no over or underweight occurred.

This new method is designed for large operators and wholesaler prepackers. It will be much cheaper than the machines with which it will compete and Portsdown, with over 20 years experience in the sand and gravel prepacking market, are confident it will find acceptance.
